also, the last time i checked, the mayan prediction of the 2012 "apocalypse" was actually a predicted shift in the magnetic poles - which then results in the earth tilting on its axis, which causes re-alignment of the ocean and continents - aka what humans would perceive to be mass chaos and destruction. in reality, this is something that has occured probably more times than we can count over the last 4 billion years, and is something that - if it's going to happen - we have no control over, so there's no use it stressing out over it.

if you really want to be prepared, stock up on food, water, clothing, guns, and ammo...but even that is no guarantee that, if shit is to hit the fan, you're going to be spared.

This is already happening, the earths magnetic field has been weakening steadily for some time now in preparation of. But it will take as much as another 2000 years to complete.
