Ok , yes I'm using the 414 > avalon 737 which is a bit crisp for my taste too (the 414 not the avalon). I love the air from the 414 but It does wives me a lot of sibilance and I ALWAYS have to use a De-esser. Can I afford the Sony?...Hmm yes maybe but ...will I spend over $7K for 1 mic..no...at least not now. I'd rather buy something like a VTB plus 2 killer preamp and comp, it's more versatile to me.
I think I will eventually buy both, the VTB and the Telefunken but I was wondering which one to get first. I like air in my vocals but if the VTB is going to sound harsh as the 414, then I might want to get something a bit warmer like the funken.
