BM5a's are what I use. Yes even for hip hop and without a sub. I can effectively hear down to about 30 Hz or so. You can add a sub if you wanna impress clients, but the BM's deliver a nice silky top end and I can mix for 12+ hours without fatigue. The Events to me are fatiguing and I cant stand listening to them for more than a couple of hours. The old V8's were great... Im thinking they are actually better than the new ones. Very balanced low end and didn't hype things up.

Its really up to you. Just check in the car a lot and on small cans you'll be good to go..
