Aren't the guitars on that album heavily multitracked?
As in, there could be as much as 4-6 separate guitars playing the exact same part but recorded with less distortion, perfect intonation and timing? once they're combined it just sounds thick and huge, and does something sonically that 1-2 crunchier guitars could never do?
