My mistake i thought you had an original 224, your 224XL should be able to save patches, best take it to a tech if its not.
The difference between 224s, briefly:
basic 224 had a white metal remote controller and black front panel, software started at 2.1 and went up to 4.3, these units could NOT save any user patches.
224 could be upgraded to 4.4 software with some eproms and a NVS card (pcb) this added extra programs and enabled the user to save patches, still using the white remote/ black front panel.
224x is the next model up, running 8.1 software with the blue remote (not larc) and 224x on the front panel, these units have more programs still, many people consider this to be the best sounding 224.
224xl this unit it the last 224 model. Running 8.2 software with the LARC (plastic blue and white controller) . Somewhat smoother than the 224x and 224. This is the unit i assume you have winvbass..
Anyway, best of luck with it.. Nice units. Get yourself a 480L and run the 224XL and 480 from one remote for ultimate reverb sluttyness..
