Any ideas on what the problem can be with this speaker?

I have a KRK RP6 monitor and KRK are being unhelpful when it comes to fixing my speaker that is under warranty. So I'm just trying to figure out if this is possibly something that is worth fixing or if I should give up on trying to get it fixed. I know a local shop around here that fixes all kinds of electronics and they fix a lot of studio monitors so I might take it there but it's $35 for a diagnosis (which goes towards the repair fee if I decide to get it repaired).

So here is the problem: The RP6 has a tweeter and the 6-inch woofer speaker. The 6-inch speaker makes a wierd noise, it sounds sort of like a static-buzzing noise. It's a constant noise and sometimes if I turn off the speaker for about a half hour and turn it back on, then there is no noise for about 5 minutes and then it starts again. I have checked all the cables so I'm definite that it's not the problem, it's a malfunction within the monitor itself. When I play music everything sounds fine and I can't hear the buzzing noise over the sound of the music so it's a quiet noise but in a quiet studio it is noticeable.

Any idea on what this could be? Could it be something as simple as a faulty capacitor?
