Wow, I've just stumbled on this thread...
What's interesting to note about 2012 is that the idea of a prophecy for a new promising new era is universal. Almost all cultures on the planet have their own version about the passing of an age into something that has to be better then the old one...
Anyway, I find Wilcock explains it pretty well in his series "The road to Ascension":

2012 (for lack of a better term) is also a geological phenomenon that crosses over into metaphysics and spirituality. The theory holds that Earth has a readable frequency that has been observed as slowly but exponentially gaining speed (the cycles get completed faster). In 2012, a shift would occur and the planet would move from the present 3rd to the 4th dimension and all living beings that can "tune" themselves to that new, faster frequency rate would transcend into the new dimension.
Imo, this is happening and is also beyond us so there is no need to panic over this but the problem it seems, is that not all will "make the jump". According to Wilcock, if you deliberately make choices that reflect the dying "order of values", ei, power and control over others, greed, harming others, etc. and continue living your life oblivious to a certain sense of ethics & moral, there are chances you wont be sensitive to the coming vibrationnal shift and wont be able to follow...
As stated before, that present "order of values" is dying and the pyramidal structural schemes associated to it (Govt, Corp, Army, Clergy, etc.) are bound to bite the dust.
Indeed, I think the Triangle will leave the stage and let the Circle do its number, wherein all are concerned (Coops, councils, Athenian Democracy, communities, etc).
Where I have a problem is that the present captains of the ship (I mean the powers behind, the so-called Elite, world Govt, finance moguls, etc.) know this is going to happen but they arent doing anything to ease the passing so I think we're in for a rough ride before we get to the other shore. More famines and financial crisis, energy wars and so forth are likely...
But ultimately, we ALL have to go thru this...
So how will music sound after the shift? I have no clue but you bet it will be good...
