Maybe I'm misunderstanding your point, but great instruments and innovations on those instruments can not be "dated." Only their application... and that's 100% up to YOU... i.e., the artist (hence the name, "artist")

I always found new ways to use my synths, including the prophet5 as well as my minimoog which still gets used in my studio often.
The P5 worked great in my 80's rock band for sure and i will agree that it is 100% up to the user for creativity in the way it gets used.If you know how to program one then it never becomes dated unless you are using standard presets.
These days there is enough bad music out there that for me i like to hear tracks done with newer instruments and sounds with good arrangements to keep my interest, sometimes a combo of old and new works great.I am luvin that when it happens.Variety is the spice of life when it comes to keyboard colors .Just my opinion here.
