Hmmm...5 x 14 will give you a bit more "snap" due to the shorter distance between the batter and res heads. It is perhaps a bit more versatile (for jazz and delicate brush work). If you are playing more high volume stuff for rock...I would go for the 6 1/2 x 14 (which I have and LOVE). It can be a bit aggressive when I swing or get quiet...
