Big Bottom, Big Bottom
Talk about mud flaps my girl's got 'em...
Talking about mids, I am CONSTANTLY fighting 1-4.5K...I'm harsh at 1-3khz and then I'm sibilant at 4.5-5khz...The M7 GT that
I had got rid of the harshness - but it also got rid of any semblance of presence too...I sold it to Lakeshorephatty and he loves it. I thought the k47
I had was really nice - however, Mike sent me a k47 head to try with my CM7 body and I thought it was too bright. The first CM7 I bought was bright as shite, I then got another that was a V15 with a pF of 87.5 and although less bright, it was still pretty harsh on
my voice - it just seemed to "have teeth" and it could snap at you in a screeching chorus. So - I ended up with a M7 V15 with a pF of around 80. I really like it. It's not boomy, but it seems to be a little bigger on bottom - it seems to have some balls like I expected a vintage 47 to sound like. Now
here's the big question: is it worth $5500? I've come a long way with several things...taste, gain staging, compressing, proper mic technique (not singing with the mic in my mouth) and even room treatment. There's part of me that would REALLY like to try a Peluso 2247 LE
now. It really is a great mic, I just found it to be a little harsh in those problem frequencies for me when I really started belting. I also remember that it didn't seem as consistent throughout the dynamic range; e.g., it would lose some bottom when really hitting it hard. What I want to know is how much of that could have been attributed to me not using it correctly and how much is just the limitations of a PCB, cost cutting mic. (no offense, but there
are corners that are cut to get to that pricing). I'm really tempted to try to pick one up used and shoot the shit out of these things...I'd like to include an AK47 too.
