To some extent, it's just the nature of being a fan, though. So I try not to view it too harshly.
When I was younger, I was guilty of it as well. I gravitated to playing a Rickenbacker because two of my favorite guitarists (
1,
2) used one . So I'm not condescending here. It's a misguided concept, but I think it's a phase that a lot of artists go through. Maybe even a necessary one.
I mean, even the Beatles were emulating Little Richards' trademark "Tutti Frutti"
WoooooOOOO howl when they sang "She Loves You." Check it out,
it's a pretty direct homage.
