Hi
I have a Mackie SDR2496, and despite what many people think (cheap...it's a Mackie...and the likes) it's working totally OK from the first day I got it, and it's almost a year now.
It's got analog and digital I/O built in and I have it in my remote recording rig, so I've carried it around a fair bit, since I primarily record on location, and roadworthiness has never been an issue, plus if you ever used an ADAT or any tape recorder it's just like that, really simple, power on and play/record.
Whatever recorder you choose get an external hard drive and use that for your audio: have a Lian bay installed in my SDR and have several drives in removable trays that I shuttle back and forth the SDR and my DAW: quick and easy and works like a charm.
Hope this helps
L.G.
