The Alesis HD24 does give a lot of value for the money. Roadworthyness depends (mostly) on the moving parts. The fan and the hard drives are the only moving parts I can think of.
I've never opened the case on mine, but I assume the fan is fairly standard. As for hard drives, they seem to be pretty rugged these days. Still, you would want to have a duplicate drive in bay 2 set-up ready to go in case the first one crashed. If you really want to be safe, bring a third duplicate HD pre-mounted in an Alesis caddy (around $20).
The OS which Alesis uses seems to be bomb-proof - at least so far.
