We all get bent about this pre or that mic and sometimes it's as simple as changing the source. D112 to API on my Tama kick sounds like a_s. D112 to API on this old Ludwig kick...HUGE.

Yeah..I know the feeling first hand about the source being important! This happened to me a while back. I'd being trying to get a good bass track with my crappy Bass guitar...
.. Changed DIs, mic pres, etc. Then I got a good Bass guitar. Solved everything! Now all the DIs/pres sound good...
.. Just different..
