Separate

I'm pretty sure mine can be used as four separate devices: two mic pres and two limiters. Its got two mic ins, two pre outs two limiter ins and two line (limiter) outs. The one drag is that the EQ is in the mic pre stage, so at mix it's a little tricky to put a line level into the thing if you want to access the EQ. Since it's an "input attenuator" you can fudge it, but there's a really fine line between getting a good level and creating unacceptable distortion. Of course you could also use some kind of transformer to take a line level down to mic level, but that's a hassle unless you've got something like that rigged up.

Also, regarding the DI, I've used it many times and have never had noise problems unless the client had a noisy instrument or a noisy cable!

By the way, last night I tracked some voice & acoustic guitar on a ballad I'm working on with a CAD M9 through the DVC. It really turned out great!
