Odd. My ATB is very quiet. You do have your speakers connected to the speaker outs, right? Not the main outs? And how far up is the MON LEVEL knob? (just above the talkback knob).
The reason I ask is that I keep my master fader at unity and my MON level control rarely gets higher than about 11 o'clock. Any more and it's too loud for mixing. And with these settings I'm at a good mix level with no noise issues at all.
