Hello,

I am planning to invest in a good 2 channel AD converter. I've heard good things about the 2 channel Mytek and even better things about the Lavry blues.

I was hoping to get some informed opinions about these two converters.

They are intended for a personal studio. The music is a mix of acoustic, vox and synth modules.

I read a review of the Lavry blue and It seemed like the reviewer was particularly pleased by their warmth and naturalness. These are the same sonic characteristics which I'm looking for.

Unfortunately the Lavry only has AES/EBU i/o. To use it in my system I would need to run it through a converter (AES/EBU to S/PDIF). My fear is that using a converter will affect the quality of the convertion.

I did see a promising transformer put out by MUTEC.

My questions are:

1) Does anyone have experience with either/both Mytec and Lavry? Which would you recommend for the described application?

2) Would a transformer have a noticable affect on the sound quality? If so how.

3) Does anyone have any experience with a MUTEC transformer?

Any imput given will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Fabe

The transformer is not going to do anything noticable to degrade the signal. I'd use Mytek where you want quality audio, I'd use Lavry where you want a little better. There isn't a specific application where one is specifically better or worse than the other, it's a general quality difference.
