BTW.. wouldn't the room, variables mentioned, and even others, have just as much to do with the sound as your unmitigated determination to get the mic placement correct?
Here's an idea... find a similar room and tools, and move some mics around until you've got something. If you don't come close you'll, at the very least, have something to call your own. It's been 25 days.
