I agree... fan noise does change the way you hear audio.. but only in a subtle way, and increasing as you turn the volume down on your monitors.
A couple things... if your audio sounds dramatically different, and you're running on ASIO drivers there might be some sort of internal eq set that you're not aware of.
Hard to believe you would hear such a difference in sound over just fan noise and quality of the power supply.
