I have a "correct" recient 1176LN & the plug-in, and have experienced similar results IE the plug-in reacts correctly in everyway, and is sonically about 85% of the real thing.
Meaning the real thing sounds slightly bigger & airy, and is also easier to push harder while still retaining its musicallity.
In other words while the real thing is better, if you still cant nail a an awesome mix with the plug-in...the problem lies with you.
