depends how much outboard was used and to what extent, that defines whether it is as important, obviously everything in the chain helps but nobody other than Chad Kreuger (yuk) can afford the whole caboodle. So one step at a time, first the guitar tone, then get the mic technique right, then later I can start thinking about whether they used compression, EQ etc that`ll be the icing on the cake.
