I agree with Fletcher & co, clever tricks are not necessary to make this work, just record at a reasonable level.
However, if this is done in the control room it can be problematic if the vocal is monitored at any significant level.
All the overdubs - vocals, guitars, etc - on
this one were done live to control-room mains.
