Sony PCM-D50 Alright slutz...
this is a simple review of that little portable sony recorder-I dont sell anything, this is just my thoughts.
Basically-I love this thing for the fact that it does what it easys it does and it works very well. You are not going to record high res recordings with the built in mics-but they really work ok for non-critical applications (rehearsals, two track of live shows, etc). I know this is not groundbreaking info-but I had the thing working within 1 minute of opening the box and it has never had a problem since. Transfers files great and the CPU sees it as an external HD so its just drag and drop. Best of all, right on the front there is a button called "divide" that creates a new track when you hit it-not just a locate point-so its REALLY easy when tracking a two hour set to break it down into several tracks.
The limiter pretty much sucks, but what do you expect?! The bass roll off does what it says, but pretty sharply. The unit comes with 4gb internal flash and you can add another 4gbin an external slot-for two tracks at 48khz that's a lot of recoring time.
In any case-I'm really pleased with this little unit, figured I'd give it a little love here even though its not on par with a Sound Devices unit or similar. At about $500 its a fantastic tool.
