Yes, that is completely true.
Although- I have gotten to dislike some gear simply because that was all the studios that I freelanced at had, which made me work harder than I like to get the sound I wanted. I don't mind working hard but there is always a time crunch and you have to get good results fast most of the time. If all the studio has in the way of mics are 414TLII's and 57's, you might start hating 414's a little because of that even if you do get the job done. Doesn't make it a bad mic of course for the right application though.
