| In the past I always used a 421 and a 57 tight together on the one speaker, with another 57 on the back if it's an open cab. When I got my Royer it became my "go to" guitar mic.
Last week I had a bit of time on my hands, however, and set up my 57 and 421 combo, the 609 and the Royer.
The 609 sounded fuller than either the 57 or the 421 individually (and even the combination after adjusting for volume) with more lows. The Royer was inevitably much smoother, but since I wanted a little fizz for certain parts of the song, I recorded the 609 and the Royer to two separate tracks and switched between them in the mix.
Quite a big sound from it, actually. The amp was a 59 Bassman reissue, but with a 2x12 cabinet, driven to a nice crunch. |
