A free open source framework for editor/librarians for outboard gear (most likely MIDI controlled) hosted as a DAW plugin would be cool.
A free RTA better than Inspector.
Free chainer/combinator plugins that act as universal-format plugin hosts.
Free controller plugin thing that lets me take any 2 automation parameters and interact with them on an XY graph like Ableton live does.
Free RTAS plugin that looks like a VI to pro tools but just splits a stereo pair into 2 discrete outputs, available as audio inputs, which would save busses and allow MPTK users the full and easy use of 96 channels of audio.
Free delay compensation plugin system. Two plugins would talk to each other: one would send a ping and the other (on the 2bus) would receive it, and the insert delay across all sender instances would be adjusted automatically by making each sender into a sample-accurate delay plugin.
Best of all would be a free plugin that turns any DAW into a Rewire slave, so I could get audio out of Logic's VIs and into ProTools.
...In general, just destroy the hegemony of the DAW!
