The only way to answer the rest of your questions is to measure the bass response in your room at high resolution. I use the ETF software for Windows described HERE, but there's also Fuzzmeasure for Macs and Room EQ Wizard for Windows.

Yes I was thinking of measure the impulse response of my room, that's the only way to find out what's going on. I think I will measure it with doors closed/ doors open. So I can see the effect of the open doors to my room. I was thinking of puttin rock whool in the back corners from bottom to top and put some fabric over it. Maybe I'll buy me a couch for my guests I think it's a good absorber too ! Thanks for your help Ethan ! Let me know if you have some other (cheap) and effective suggestions!
