| There used to be a great Guest Moderator archive with Richard Dodd but it was pulled down for reasons I won't go into now.
He shared some of his Petty recording and mixing techniques. And some of Jim Scott's, too.
I remember him saying that a lot of those great layered acoustic guitars were Petty, Mike Campbell and Jeff Lynne sitting in a circle. Two of the guitars were 6 string and one was a 12 string. All miked with
KM 84s, summed together to one channel and then run through an 1176. Then they all would rotate guitars and do a double take or more. Rotating guitars each time.
