I usually resort to using the predelay parameter on the reverb unit to achieve this "explosion" effect.
I'm sure there are many uses for sidechaining reverb return compression but that's what comes to mind...someone please enlighten all of us to some other techniques. |
I just recently started to get more into this. I also adjust with the predelay for the "explosion" effect or "swell" if you will. Primarily on vocals (but duh, snare, hello, earth to Dan-O). Something like a pre-chorus or chorus which lends it self phrasing wise. I really like this type of ducking with delays as well. Things "pop" and have presence with a bit of movement. I'm lovin it.
