and i'd love to believe akai's promises of future OS upgrades. but its clear from that comment you don't know the history us 4k users have been through with akai. not only did we not get things promised in future upgrades- and not only has our operating system now been discontinued- but features advertised when they first announced the product (direct from disk streaming) never even were there in the first place.
One shouldn't assume. I picked up an MPC 4000 when it was first released in Japan in 2002. I labored with it during its first dozen OS upgrades. I am fully aware of the features it was advertised to have but never materialized. From what I understand, it was released during a period where ownership was changing hands. It was among the last products released under the old Akai (as well as the Z series). Now if you purchased it like me..brand new..than you simply return it if it doesn't work as advertised. I wouldn't be stuck with something that doesn't work as promised. That isn't logical. Under the new Akai, the MPC 2500 and 1000 has had numerous OS updates. And there are current updates in the works being done by a rougue Akai employee known as JJ who is adding keygroup programming as a type this.

From you other comments about a half assed virtual analog synth...I can't see where the MPC 5000 is lacking. Please feel free to clarify. From your DAW to your software synths, why would you care about any MPC anyway? (based upon your comments). You can simply buy a computer. software, and a MIDI drum pad to accomplish the same thing. But then again, it will not be as fun as an MPC.
