Thats interesting, cause I just had a dealer tell me the opposite - that the extra 256mb of the 8800 will free up resources hence improving performance.
I can't make my mind up here. I think anyone in graphics/ video/ design industries would choose the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB without a thought, but for music production, I don't know.
But, if the 8800 improves input level monitoring or improves video playback in Logic then I'd definately spend the extra.
