The Hosa xlr patchbay is a high quality unit-unlike their crap cables. I made my first patchbay using Neutrik panel mounts with gold contacts on the front and Mogami cables out the back into Neutrik gold xlr connectors. Like you, I didn't want to plug my high dollar stuff into something low quality. When I needed another patchbay, I bought the Hosa. I honestly don't hear any difference. One thing though. You can buy this patchbay brand new on eBay for around $75 (I did). The retail price on these seems kind of excessive to me.
