I think he means he'd just monitor through the 002 until the time came to put the parts into PT - obviously you can't use the 002 as a standalone mixer, and also run PT on the computer - it just gives out the error "hardware not connected" until you leave standalone mode, and then ok the message.

Hmm...tricky one. One partial solution might be to connect the MPC unbalanced to 7/8 phonos - you can then route "alt 7-8 to mon" when you're writing, and the other button that routes alt 7-8 instead of the main inputs 7/8 when you're ready to bounce. It's a bit of a comprimise though - I wouldn't have thought it's the way to get the best quality from your system.

Personally, I'd just have a simple PT session set up that routes the MPC to the monitors, and work that way. The 003 doesn't work the way you're used to, so you've got to find an alternative.
