I think you should just use gobos that you can arrange into a circle or a square.

I don't see the point of adding a ceiling, unless you are somehow going to add a lot of mass to the booth walls and make it airtight. If you really want to stop drum sounds, you'd need to build something like this, which of course makes it tough to be portable.

But gobos will stop a lot of sound, and with good placement (both mics and instruments) you can get good isolation.

For example, in one room I record in often, the ceiling is treated with fluffy fiberglass covered with cloth, and I have 6 freestanding gobos, 2'x6' tall. I can arrange them in a half-circle in one corner, put additional freestanding bass traps in the corner, and I have a good, dead sounding space. It's not boomy because it's not really a small room, low end can escape. At the same time there isn't a lot of room sound because of the deadness at mids and highs.

But then it's no secret I'm a big fan of moveable treatment strategies.
