In my opinion a Supraphonic sounds best with the original Ludwig snare wires. They provide a nice quick snap and are largely part of the classic Supra sound.

I've tried lots of snare wires on different drums and keep coming back to 20-strand steel wires... Pearl makes good ones... about as close as you can get to the Ludwig Supra wires... generally.

Heavier darker wires provide, yes, you guessed it, a darker sound... with less snap and less detail... but I guess it's all subjective, apples and oranges. All depends on how you tune your snare, how you play it, style of music, etc, etc....

Hey, anyone getting rid of original Supra snare wires, I'll take `em!!! Seriously.
