you can tune the "kick" (which isn't actually) so it pretends to have a phantastic low end while in reality not so much is there.
the harmonics can reflect the structure without the basic Hz being present. part of the trick is that tharmonics are like "chopped" by the low f. but it can't be a single pulse or a stochastic (noise like), it should be a periodic, perhaps with a downsweep. beware of interferences with the bass - ok here there is none.
of course you must leave enough energy in it to shake the stomach. but its not as low as it will be perceived.
