I don't mean to stray off topic too much, but I had a Nady 1050 (wide body version of the Apex 460/Nady 1150, that was shown to be the same mic as the Telefunken M-16 MK I), modded with a Peluso CEK-12 capsule, Cinemag 2480 transformer, upgraded caps including an Auricap in C8 and a Black Gate in C6, Zener diode mods in the power supply, a NOS GE JAN 6072a tube, cathode follower removed and a better cable, that was a fantastic sounding mic. My point being that if you find a good tech who works at a reasonable rate, you could probably have a mic made that is superior to the Avant and at least approaches (maybe equals) the Peluso at a total price that is not much more than the Avant.
