I haven't seen the Purple stuff but I have a new Universal 1176 in the shop now for upgrading. It's an almost perfect copy of the "B" version 1176 with the 3 transistor output stage. The output transformer looks identical to the original and the input transformer is not a triad, it is grey and of the same look. 2N3391 transistors are in there like the original. Sonically, before and after upgrading this unit is clearer than the originals I've worked on.
