For me personally, the best thing I did was move the monitor off the console meter bridge and put it to the side. It made me listen to music again instead of watching it. But if it was in the middle I'd set the speakers first then place the monitor. You can end up with a pretty false centre on your image otherwise which makes judging lead vocal and bass pretty hit and miss. The main thing I notice a lot is having too wide a gap in between the monitors.
