damn that was awhile ago.
the first record was cut in studio A at sunset sound factory.
so it was all API pre's obviously.
it was pretty standard fare mic wise.
57 top and bottom on the snare
i think we started with 421's and then ended up with 414's on the toms.
D112 inside the kick U195 outside.
royer stereo and 67's in the rooms
a hotrodded stephen paul 87 with innertube elctronics behind the kit.
overheads were possibly schoeps CMC5's.
certain elements met up with 1176's on their way to tape.
it was recorded to glorious 456.
winning days was recorded at bearsville in studio A.
this was a neve affair.
i think the set up is pretty similiar with the exception of adding a 451
along with the 57 on the top snare.
the room was very large so we put gobo's around the kit and a parachute over the top.
the large theatrical curtain was drawn cut back on some of the sonic bullshit.
we had set up more mics out on the floor to exploit the room more.
pairs of 47's 67's coles and the stereo royer.
using different combos of the various mics depending on the song tempo space etc.
and again certain elements met up with 1176's on their way to tape.
i miss tape.
nothing like a razor blade and an edit block.......
