I'm still using PT mix, so I must have a tower that I can plug a mix core into -- which i believe is PCI-x, right ?
Anyway, I want to get a second mac and mix core card exclusively to run Drumagog in PT. I would like to be able to use 10 or more instances of drumagog at once, and possibly still have some RTAS power left over for other plugs as well. I just want a dedicated system with ALOT of power for drumagog, so that i never have to worry about "printing" the sampled tracks to free up CPU power.
I have a 5 card mix system that I run with an old G4 800mhz, and I still want to use that as my master system triggering the 2nd (slaved) PT system on the seperate tower. I mix thru an analog console with 48 DA16x outs, and I'll likely have 1 of the DA16x units connected to the drumagog rig.
Anyway, do I really need a dual processor tower (1.6Ghz) or greater, or would a single processor (of what speed) work ? Like i said, I really want to be able to use a *hitload of drumagogs simultaneously. Right now my G4 800mhz is a complete joke! Once i get to 3 mono drumagogs it starts to choke, and yes I have the CPU % usage maxed out.
I'm looking at a 1.6 Ghz G5 tower right now, so any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Are the dual towers really a better option for this ?
