Analog gates such as Kepex and Drawmer201's definitely have a sound. With modern digital editing at my disposal, I am using gates much less for basic utility purposes, but they are still very valuable during mixdown. There are a lot of analog mixing tricks that involve the use of gates and good analog gates can add punch to sources. So....yes I still use them.
