We're at 12 quarter frames here with PTHD on a G5 2x2, but it used to be greater on a G4.
I made a small movie with a 1-sample click and a 1-frame white flash every second for 10 seconds. I usually just loop that and adjust the offset. Occasionally, I've brought it out and played it when a movie looked out of sync in certain places.
One thing to remember: when you trash prefs, the offset GOES AWAY and gets reset to 0!! It is NOT stored with the session file!!
