Great News, but I need advice too!

Hi everybody. I guess I'll start off with the good news. I just started my junior year at college in a developing Music Industry program. I was recently appointed chief engineer of the whole school along with another guy! We are going to record all the projects for the Songwriting class (about 20 up from 5 last semester) and do a lot of live recordings of ensemble performances as well. We're using a Control 24 with HD2, and I'm super excited for all of the things that I know I am going to learn. It will teach me more than I could ever learn in any classroom.

Now to the help part. I currently have an Mbox 2 and a couple of cheap mics. I have been looking at trading in my Mbox for the discount on the 003 so that I can mix some stuff at home and not always have to go to the school. But also, the school has mediocre mics (Rode NT4, CAD e300, etc.). Should I use my money to buy better mics to record school stuff with and start my mic collection? Or should I go with my original idea with the 003 console and Music Production Kit? The Digi trade in is only until Dec 20, and I will have just enough money by then to buy the 003.

Thanks for the help!
