[QUOTE=El Fatso;1439171]i second the wunderbar idea.
a neve 8014 usually goes for around 65 grand.
That would be an absolute steal these days...
Neve prices have really jumped up in the last couple of years. An 8014 fully-loaded with 1073/1084's and 2254's can be upwards of 90k or more. While that may be outrageous, it's also one of the reasons that a Neve -- any vintage Neve -- is a pretty sound investment. Yes, it's lot of dollars to buy in, but it will hold its value and then some over the years. I'm not saying run out and buy one for that reason, but it's definitely something to consider.
Also, regarding the Wunder stuff, I'm not sure I agree that the Wunder console is the right move for this particular poster, at least from what I can glean from his comments. It sounds like the fellow he's helping with this purchase has got his heart set on the Neve name, and I doubt that a Wunder -- even loaded with some Neve modules -- is the thing he's after. To that end, I've whipped up a little price list that may be of some use...this is just some rough estimates based on what I've seen in the last few months, and it presumes that the consoles are in excellent to mint condition:
BCM10 w/1073's (Class A discrete, 10x2): 45-50k
Melbourn w/3114's (Class A/B discrete, 12x2): 22-24k*
Kelso w/3116's (Class A/B discrete, 10x2): 10k
5465 (IC based, 16 x 4 x 2): 9-10k
5442 (IC based, 8 x 2): 4-5k
* Non-discrete modules will lower the value somewhat. That's not a value judgement, just a market fact...I think the IC Neves sound awesome.
All the best...Cheers -- JB
