Hey everyone. I've been lurking around here for awhile...I finally may have a question. Thanks for all your posts, by the way.

I'm getting ready to build some pres, and I'm just trying to figure out if the output transformer option on a john hardy style pre is absolutely necessary. I've got 1272 transformer pres, and hamptone tube tranformer pres, and now I just want a clean, "catch-all" channel. Output trannys are expensive...in fact, I could probably build another channel if I added a few bucks...

Whatdya think? Is there a great $50-70 transformer out there that you guys love?
