I auditioned an InnerTube U87 and ran into a hum problem too. Given that it sounded like 60 Hz hum, I assume it was ground-related, but since I preferred the tone of my Klaus Heyne modified U87 to the InnerTube, I didn't try to resolve the problem.
I wouldn't defeat the grounding prong on the power cable for the supply (potentially dangerous), but you should be able to disconnect the audio ground from the power ground. Incidentally, I've never experienced that kind of hum with any other mic (including my old M49), so I'm not sure why I ran into a problem with the InnerTube U87. Have you emailed Stayne about it? He can probably provide some guidance.
