| Just finsihed mixing a session last night on that very question, when tracking i took to room mics AKG 414 on each side of the drum kit facing the hardwood floor( about 3 ft high), run them thru my Studer 089s and push the pres pretty hard and out comes the good ole distortion in a nice way, reminds me a lot of the STP sound but more......great stuff, it took the rest of the band music and gave it that edge as well when mixed in.
ps: 2 room mics was all i use to revord those drums in that session.
