Taken the liberty to clean up this thread first ....
I use protools and the sample rate conversion in there ... using tweak settings.
I don't know how Nuendo does it but at least would think it does a decent job at it.
I would do the best possible sample rate conversion Nuendo has to offer .... next you can try to record your 48k mix to a 44.1 medium, like a CD recorder or a DAT going DA and then AD... when doing this you probably wanna go through some external high quality AD box instead of using the recorders AD and go into the recorder digitally. That way you avoid usually jittery AD's which DAT's and CD recorders tend to have.
compare the re-recorded mix to the sample rate converted one in nuendo ... making sure you use the same DA to listen to them .... see if you can hear differences and decide which ever sounds better.
remember to keep an eye on your clock settings if you don't have a masterclock for the whole setup.
