If you want more power, you could ask the IT-guys if they could get you ThinkPad x61, they're available up to 2ghz C2D and they are very portable, downside is the 12" screen is not widescreen and resolution is XGA.

But the VAIO should be ok, unless you are using loads of convolution reverbs etc.
